PET PEEVES
by
Jenny Smith
These are my 'protest' paintings. If I get really upset about
an issue and I want to do something about it I put brush to canvas instead of the usual method of pen to paper.
'Emperor George the Destroyer' 2006
Bush is now acting more like the Emperor
Nero, who is famed for fiddling whilst Rome burned. Here we have George standing in front of the White House which is
about to go up in flames, standing in the desert that America has become, and holding the tattered US flag. In his left
hand he holds the scales of justice with the Statue of Liberty outweighed by the coffin on which is written, in Roman numerals,
the number of dead resulting from his 'Operation Iraqi Freedom'. This stood at 249,840 in August 2006 when I completed
the painting

'George the III the Second' 2005
After the 2004 election Bush started
to behave like royalty. I have painted him wearing King George III's coronation robes with the British coronation crown (topped
with the Statue of Liberty) at his side. Like his namesake he is not too interested in the rights of American citizens,
as can be seen from his treatment of the Bill of Rights document on which he is standing.

'G W' 2004
This portrait of George W Bush was painted
before the November 2004 election. My feelings were that he was a simple fool and he was playing with world affairs.
Although he said that God was on his side I felt that it was more likely to be the Devil directing him.
